LEAP is currently offering free home energy advice visits, the installation of free energy saving devices, heating tune-ups for home owners and referrals for further support and funding to reduce energy bills, improve health and increase income.

The LEAP boiler scheme has reopened on 1st October 2024 (The LEAP Boiler scheme is only applicable to qualifying homeowners with a broken gas boiler and in a no-heat situation).

LEAP

LEAP (Local Energy Advice Partnership) is a FREE home visit scheme to assist residents throughout Dorset with free energy advice, energy saving devices, along with access to other improvements like heating upgrades, insulation, free appliances and replacement boilers.

Are you eligible for LEAP Energy Advice?

Anyone receiving one of the following:

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Contribution-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Pension Guarantee Credit
  • Pension Savings Credit
  • Child Tax Credit / Work Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Reductions
  • A Disability Benefit (Incl. Attendance Allowance, Carer’s Allowance, DLA, PIP, Severe Disablement Allowance)
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit

Or:

  • Total annual household income less than £31,000

Are you eligible for LEAP Appliances?

Anyone receiving one of the following:

  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income Support
  • Pension Guarantee Credit
  • Child Tax Credit / Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit
  • Housing Benefit

Or:

  • Total annual household income less than £31,000

Are you eligible for a LEAP Boiler?

To be eligible for a referral a resident must:
• Own the home they live in
• Have gas central heating radiator system (warm air heating systems not eligible)
• Mains gas is the primary source of heating (LPG is not eligible)
• Be in a “no heat situation”
• The cause of the emergency is a recently broken boiler (Funding is not available to provide full central heating replacements)
• The property is not considered to be a ‘higher risk’ property e.g. park homes, high-rise buildings and any building that is both traditionally constructed and protected (a.k.a listed buildings), and cannot be of sandstone construction.

Be in receipt of a means tested benefit or tax credit:
• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
• Income Support
• Pension Guarantee Credit
• Child Tax Credit / Working Tax Credit
• Universal Credit
• Housing Benefit

OR have a low household income that does not exceed the threshold £31,000 gross

AND there must be someone in the household who is:
• Aged 65 or over
• Aged under 5
• Suffering from a significant health problem or has a disability that may be exacerbated by living in a cold home:

  • Cancer/Terminal illness
  • Cardiovascular Condition
  • Respiratory Condition
  • Disability
  • Mental Health Condition

What LEAP can do for you:

  • Help check if you are on the cheapest energy tariffs – could save you over £280 a year
  • Install FREE, simple energy saving measures which can save the average household £30 on their energy bills a year.
  • Give you day-to-day energy efficiency hints and tips and ensure your heating system is set up to keep you warm and save money.
  • Arrange a FREE telephone advice service to help with benefits, debt and other money problems.
  • Refer you for further energy efficiency improvements, such as full central heating, loft or cavity wall insulation or a new boiler.
  • Other local advice that may help you save on your water bills, arrange a free Fire Service visit or help access some other assistance.

LEAP Appliances:

The LEAP Appliance scheme also provides free fridge freezers, electric cookers, air fryers, heated clothes airer (winter only) and dehumidifiers (winter only) under a grant – please note that gas cookers are not available under this scheme, only one appliance per household can be provided and any appliance to be replaced is over 8 years old. All replacements are highly energy efficient, thus reducing your energy bills and reducing the impact on the environment.

LEAP Boilers:

The LEAP Boiler scheme is a funded heating scheme that offers assistance to qualifying owner occupier households to repair or replace broken (No heat) or condemned gas boilers. If you are eligible, you may get a fully funded (subject to survey) brand new, A rated energy efficient gas boiler replacement. Boilers that are 10 years and older will be replaced, and boilers that are less than 10 years, will try to be repaired if economical to do so, but if a repair is not possible, may be replaced.

How it Works

If you’re eligible, you will get a FREE home visit from a friendly, qualified Home Energy Advisor.

Ridgewater Energy also manage local and national energy efficiency funding and projects, and our team have 20 years’ experience working with letting agents, management companies, private landlords and tenants.

We work with a network of trusted installers, who can assist with various energy efficiency and heating measures whether funded or on a paid quote basis.
